Frequently asked questions

Answers about international carbon credits (ITMOs) and the UPROOT Y service.

Article 6.2 (ITMO) — a mitigation outcome transferred between countries under a bilateral agreement. UPROOT Y converts generation data into ITMOs on the basis of a host country Letter of Authorization (LoA).

Article 6.4 (PACM) — operates under UN supervision, issuing mitigation outcomes used toward national NDC targets. Project developers, governments and private companies can obtain independent validation and verification services under this mechanism.

CORSIA eligible units — credits that airlines purchase and surrender to offset emissions above their baseline under the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation.

The sequence is: generation data collection → AI reduction calculation → mapping to the Verra VCS standard → review by a Validation/Verification Body (VVB) → government Letter of Authorization (LoA) → credit issuance.

Power producers can adopt the AI-MRV system with no equipment investment, and share the revenue from issued credits with UPROOT Y.

Power generators and global RE100 companies, along with airlines and refiners subject to CORSIA, roughly 700 K-ETS allocated entities, and 36 RE100 participants, are the main sources of demand.

Reductions vary with output (efficiency) and grid mode — whether the plant displaces grid fossil generation (On-Grid) or diesel fuel (Off-Grid).

Reductions = generation × grid emission factor

Output varies with efficiency, but a new small hydropower plant produces roughly 5,000–6,000 MWh per year. Displacing grid fossil generation (On-Grid) yields about 1,300 tCO2 per year; displacing diesel (Off-Grid) yields about 3,600 tCO2 — more than three times the difference.
